London businessman, Layton Tamberlin, attended Keble College, Oxford University, where he achieved his master’s degree in Mathematics and Philosophy. Today, Layton Tamberlin is married and the proud father of two children. He also devotes a great deal of free time and money to increasing awareness about autism, having grown up with an autistic brother.
Professional Background
After achieving his master’s degree, Layton Tamberlin entered the professional world, in the realms of finance. His first position was with the highly renowned investment banking firm, Merrill Lynch. Layton Tamberlin worked in UK Investment Banking, as well as Eurorpean corporate finance. Acting as an associate within the firm, he was involved with several deals and transactions, most notably the initial public offerings of companies such as PHS Group plc, Generics Group plc and iTouch plc. He was also involved in the deal whereby Gannett, The United States’ largest newspaper publisher, acquired Newsquest Media Group, and Ardagh plc’s acquisition of Rockware.
Layton Tamberlin’s years at Merrill Lynch were highly successful for both the company and Merrill Lynch went on to become a leader in the mergers and acquisitions market. In this environment Mr Tamberlin’s skill as a financier and investment banker grew tremendously.
In early 2002, Layton Tamberlin went to work for TDR Capital, a new company that was in the process of being established by co-founders Stephen Robertson and Manjit Dale, with funding by the noted hedge fund manager, the Tudor Group. Today, TDR Capital is a private equity firm operating out of western Europe with €2.5bn under management Layton Tamberlin worked for TDR Capital for seven years, between 2002 and 2009. During this time he brought his considerable expertise and a wealth of experience to bear, and was involved in all of their major acquisitions, including the well known firms of Pearl, PizzaExpress, Algeco, Resolution, ASK and Williams Scotsman. Layton Tamberlin resigned from TDR Capital in 2009 following a motoring conviction.
Current Business Endeavours
He is currently Chairman of Samedaydoctor and Partner at Sullivan Street Partners. Samedaydoctor, established in 2003 in London, UK, has a chain of walk-in healthcare clinics across the United Kingdom, which are owned and operated privately, and are committed to giving the highest possible levels of healthcare to their clientele. As Chairman, Layton Tamberlin has a strong influence in the company’s direction and future, and has brought the wealth of his business acumen to bear on bringing the company ever growing success. In 2010, under Mr Tamberlin’s management, the company began running a service on the Internet.
Sullivan Street Partners is an investment firm which seeks out complex private investment situations where it is able to structure and equity investment and apply its operational expertise to the business. His partner in the firm is Richard Sanders, formerly the John Lewis Partnership’s director of Group Strategy and consultant at Bain and Company.
